The Phronesium Story
Phronesium began with a simple idea. Most organisations do not lack information.
They lack judgement.
The data is there. The warning signs are there. The controls are there. Yet bad decisions still happen.
Why?
Because knowing is not the same as judging.
Phronesium exists to help people think more clearly, ask better questions and make better decisions.
The name comes from the Greek word phronesis: practical wisdom.
Not knowing more. Knowing what to do.
We combined phronesis with -ium, the language of the periodic table.
The result is Phronesium.
The first element of better decisions.
Its subject is judgement: in audit, risk, governance, psychology, philosophy, books and people.
Some essays are practical. Some are reflective. Some are tributes to people who left behind something worth keeping.
The subjects change. The question does not:

Behind Phronesium
Phronesium is the vision of its founder, Antonio C. Coppola.
For more than twenty years, Antonio has worked with organisations to improve governance, manage risk, strengthen assurance and make better decisions.
His career has taken him across financial services, professional services, aviation and international organisations supporting executive teams, regulators and major transformation programmes.
He has worked in more than twenty countries usually for at least two months at a time, long enough to understand the organisation, work closely with local teams and discover where the genuinely important coffee was kept.
Along the way, he learned something simple: complex problems do not always need complicated answers. Sometimes they just need better questions, clearer thinking and the courage to say what is actually happening.
Antonio is a Chartered Accountant and Statutory Auditor. He graduated in Financial Economics and Insurance from the University of Naples Federico II with the highest distinction, achieving 110/110 cum laude. He also completed secondary school with the maximum possible grade of 60/60.
His curiosity later took him to the University of Oxford, where he studied subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy of Mind, Psychology, Critical Reasoning, Critical Reading, Culture and decision-making.
Phronesium grew from a simple belief:
Good governance begins with good judgement.
Antonio’s thinking is influenced by three people who never met, but would probably have had a very interesting—and possibly very long—conversation:
Aristotle — practical wisdom.
Socrates — better questions.
George Orwell — clear language.
Better questions. Better judgement. Better decisions.
And yes, Antonio genuinely enjoys reading audit standards, governance reports and philosophy books.
Some people have hobbies. He has footnotes.
